Union of Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam twice in a year, in February and in November. The exam is held by UPSC for the recruitment in Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. The Applications for UPSC CDS (1) 2018 exam were available from 8th November 2017 to 4th December 2017 and the examination was conducted on 4th February 2018. While the Applications for UPSC CDS (2) 2018 will be released in August 2018 and the examination will be in the month of November 2018. The examination Pattern of UPSC CDS is divided into two stages. UPSC CDS 2018 Application Form
The procedure of applying for UPSC CDS 2018 exam requires the submission of the UPSC CDS Application Form which can be accessed from the official website of the UPSC. Candidates desirous of applying for the exam will have to provide the details asked in the form which includes the contact information, personal details, education qualification and other information. The Applications for UPSC CDS (1) 2018 exam were available from 8th November 2017 to 4th December 2017 and the examination was conducted on 4th February 2018. While the Applications for UPSC CDS (2) 2018 will be released in August 2018 and the last date for the submission of the Application Form will be in September 2018.
Application Form includes the registration procedure which is in two parts. In Part 1 candidates will have to enter the personal details and in Part 2 candidates will be required to upload the photograph and signature in the prescribed manner.
Procedure of Filling up the Application Form
The Application Form consists of two parts. It is mandatory to complete Part 1 of the form in order to complete the entire Application Process. Steps are mentioned below for completing the online Application procedure:
Step 1 – Registration
Candidates visiting first time to apply for the exam will be required to complete the Registration Procedure. This section will ask for the Personal Details, academic details and other information. In case the candidate finds the information provided is incorrect, she/he will have the option of modification or changes in the details. After ensuring the correctness of all the information details, click on the declaration tab and click on submit button. A system generated Registration Number will be diplsayed on the screen and the same will be sent on your registered Email ID. Details to be filled in the Application Form are mentioned below:

Step 2 – Application Form
Login to your Account by entering the Registration Number and Date of Birth. It involves three steps:
Payment of Application Fee- The applicants are required to pay the Application fee of Rs. 200/- (SC/ST and women candidates are exempted from the payment of the Application fee). The fee can be paid either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI or by using Net Banking facility or through Credit/Debit Card payment.
Uploading Photograph and Signature: In this step, candidates are required to upload their scanned photograph and signature. Specifications are mentioned in the tabular format below:

Note: Before the final submission of the Application Form after payment of the application fee and uploading photograph and signature, candidates are advised to go through the details once again. There will be an option of editing the details mentioned. After ensuring that the information provided by the candidate in the Form is correct, candidate can click on the final submit button.
UPSC CDS 2018 Eligibility Criteria
Candidate are advised to go through the eligibility criteria in detail before proceeding for the Application Form. UPSC has declared guidelines regarding the eligibility in context of Nationality, Age Limit and Educational qualification which should fulfilled if candidate wants to appear for UPSC CDS exam. Aspiring candidates can go through the eligibility conditions mentioned below in detail:
A candidate must be either:
a citizen of India, or
a subject of Nepal, or
a subject of Bhutan, or
a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Linka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Age Limit, Sex and Marital Status
For IMA (Indian Military Academy)- Unmarried male candidates not born earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1st January, 2000 only are eligible.
For Indian Naval Academy- Unmarried male candidates not born earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1st January, 2000 only are eligible.
For Air Force Academy- 20 to 24 years as on 1st January 2019 i.e. not born earlier than 2nd January 1995 and not later than 1st January 1999 (upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 years i.e. born not ealier than 2nd January 1993 and not later than 1st January 1999) only are eligible.
For Officer’s Training Academy (SSC Course for men)- Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January 1994 and not later than 1st January 2000 are eligible.
For Officer’s Training Academy (SSC women non-technical course)- Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees who have not remarried are eigible. They should have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1994 and not later than 1st January 2000.
For I.M.A. and Officer’s Training Academy- Degree of a recognized University or equivalent
For Indian Naval Academy- Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/Institution’
For Air Force Academy- Degree of a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering
Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply provided that the candidate should not have any present backlog upto the last semester/year for which results have been declared upto the time of submission of application and they will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination at the time of commencement of course.
Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years are eligible to apply but during training period they will neither be provided married accomodation nor can they live with family out of the premises.
Male Divorcee/widower candidates cannot be treated as unmarried candidates for the purpose of their admission in IMA/INA/AFA courses and accordingly they are not eligible for these courses.
The Date of Birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate issued from a recognized Board or University.

UPSC CDS 2018 Examination Pattern
Candidates preparing for UPSC CDS exam are advised go through the pattern of question paper mentioned here. The pattern is defined by the examination conducting authority of UPSC. It will be helpful if candidates get the impression of question paper in prior, it will help in strategizing the preparation. Go through the points mentioned in points:
Each question Paper will be of 100 marks and time duration will be 2 hours for each exam.
There will be Negative Marking for every incorrect answer
The pattern of the question paper will be of objective type. Candidates will be provided with four options for each question and candidate will be required to tick mark the correct one as per her/his knowledge.

UPSC CDS 2018 Admit Card
The Admit Card of UPSC CDS 2018 will be available on the official website of the Commission. Admit Card for UPSC CDS (2) will be available few weeks before the exam. It should be noted that the admit cards will be available only in the online mode and there will be no option of its availability through post. UPSC CDS Admit Card is a mandatory document to be present at the time of the examination with the candidate, entry will be prohibited in its absence. Candidates will be able to download it from the official website. It is advised that they cross check the information mentioned on the Admit Card, in case of any incorrect detail the examination authorities should be immediately contacted. Candidates will also be required to bring one Photo ID along with the Admit card on the day of the exam.
UPSC CDS 2018 Answer keys
The Answer Keys of UPSC CDS will be released by the Commission on its official webiste few days after the exam procedure gets over. Answer Keys will be available for the exam papers of English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics. In each subject there will be four question paper sets. The answer keys of all the sets will be available. Candidates will be able to download the Answer keys and cross check whether the answers ticked by them are correct or not. Few of the important points regarding the Answer Keys are mentioned below:
Candidates can check the answer keys and arrive at the estimate score before the official release of the result.
Candidates will be able to check the answer keys of English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics separately which will be available on the website of UPSC.
The marking pattern in each set of CDS 2018 will be similar to what is actually followed in the real CDS exam.
Candidates should note that there will be negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer. There will be no deduction of marks for unanswered questions.
After all the deduction and addition candidates will be left with the estimated score.
UPSC CDS 2018 Cut Off
The Commission will be releasing the Cut off for UPSC CDS exam soon after the release of the Answer Keys. The cut off of both CDS (1) and CDS (2) will be releasing separately before the final declaration of the result. Candidates can go through the cut off marks of CDS (1) 2017 exam mentioned in the tabular format and get the reference of the possible cut off which is decided by the Commission. The cut offs by the Commission are decided based on the following factors:

UPSC CDS 2018 Result
The UPSC CDS Result 2018 will be declared on the official website of the Commission. UPSC conducts the exam of Combined Defence Services twice in a year, in February and in November. The result are declared for the written exam first declaring the selection of the candidates who are eligible for Interview and Personality Test round. UPSC prepares a Merit List of applicants who have acquired the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as established by the Commission. Final Result is declared after the presonality test is completed. Qualified candidates after the final result are admitted to various academies.
